Areas We Serve

From Northampton to Greenfield, Altai Alternative Care in Sunderland connects the Pioneer Valley with Western Mass’ best cannabis.

Amherst

About Amherst

Home to Amherst College, UMass Amherst, and all kinds of exquisite restaurants and funky cafes, Amherst is where we spend much of our weekends. It’s also where many of the UMass employees who live in Sunderland spend much of their week. The Pioneer Valley wouldn’t be the same without it.

  • Mullins Center. Right off Commonwealth Ave, we love the sports games and concerts here alike.
  • 30Boltwood. The exterior is a blast from the past, and the food is the best of today. It’s directly on Amherst Town Common, too, so there’s no missing this spot.
  • Futura Coffee Roasters. The lovely espresso here is just over the Sunderland border in the Mill District.
  1. Starting at the intersection of Pleasant Street, Amity Street, and Main Street in Amherst, head west on Amity Street. You’re going in the correct direction if Amherst Coffee and Bar is on your left.
  2. At the next traffic light, turn right onto University Drive.
  3. Take the second exit at the traffic circle, then at the end of University Drive, turn left onto Massachusetts Avenue, which becomes North Hadley Road.
  4. Take the second left to merge onto Route 116 North toward Sunderland/Deerfield.
  5. Continue for five and a half miles. Once you see The O’s Music Bar on your right, you’re almost at Altai!
  6. Make the first left after the plaza on your left with Frontier Pizza and Banchan Korean Deli, and you’ll be at our dispensary.

Hatfield

About Hatfield

Quiet yet near all the action, Hatfield is one of the Pioneer Valley’s most serene towns. We head here from tranquil Sunderland when we’re seeking even deeper relaxation, whether via Western Mass’ best wines or chillest waterside views.

  • Black Birch Vineyard. The wines are divine, and the weekend food truck’s offerings are mouthwatering. This place is so pretty, you might forget you’re right off I-91.
  • Connecticut River Greenway State Park. Wide trails, abundant greenery, few to no sounds for miles — what’s not to love?
  • Mill River Tavern. The exterior is unassuming, but the pizzas at this aptly-named restaurant next to the Mill River are some of the best near Sunderland.
  1. Starting at Main Street and School Street in Hatfield, head north on Main Street. You’re going in the correct direction if Hatfield Center Store is on your right.
  2. Continued for about seven miles; Main Street will become River Road.
  3. At the end of River Road, turn right onto Sunderland Road/Massachusetts Route 116 South. Continue for 1.8 miles; you’ll cross the Sunderland Bridge shortly after turning onto Sunderland Road.
  4. After you see apartments on either side of the street, look for Altai Alternative Care. We’re on your right with a huge parking lot.

Northampton

About Northampton

Northampton rightly earns its reputation as an artistic and academic hub of Western Mass. That said, Smith College is only the start of what makes Northampton special. We love heading here for the delicious food, the thriving music scene, and the gorgeous displays of plant life.

  • The Iron Horse. We love the touring acts and low-stakes music classes here in equal measure. That’s quite fitting, given that Academy of Music performing arts theater is just down the road.
  • The Botanic Garden of Smith College. There’s always a new flower or shrub to discover in this vast garden directly across from Paradise Pond.
  • Fitzwilly’s Restaurant. Housed in a pre-1900s building, Fitzwilly’s serves up divine craft beer and burgers. You’ll have no trouble finding the place, right near the corner of Main and Pleasant streets.
  1. Starting from the intersection of Main Street and Pleasant Street in Northampton, head north on Pleasant Street/U.S. Route 5. You’re going in the correct direction if The Hotel Northampton is on your left.
  2. After about a mile and a half, the road will start to have a median. Cross the first traffic light after this median, then take the first right turn to merge onto I-91 North.
  3. Stay on I-91 North for eight and a half miles, then take exit 35 on your right for U.S. Route 5 North toward Deerfield/Conway.
  4. At the end of the exit ramp, turn right onto U.S. Route 5 North, then make the first right onto Sunderland Road/Massachusetts Route 116 South.
  5. Stay on Sunderland Road for just over three miles; you’ll cross the Sunderland Bridge along the way.
  6. About a mile and a half after you cross the bridge, you’ll see apartments on either side of the street. After these, Altai Alternative Care is on your right with a huge parking lot.

Greenfield

About Greenfield

Greenfield is one of our go-to nearby cities for outdoor celebrations. The Franklin County Fair takes over every September, and the Green River Festival rolls through mid-summer with global touring acts. The real magic of Deerfield, though, lies in what we get up to here year-round.

  • Poet’s Seat Tower. We never get tired of the stunning views of Rocky Mountain Park, and a stroll along the nearby paths always clears our heads.
  • Terrazza. Like our dispensary, Terrazza is family-owned. You can taste the care in the absolutely delicious Italian food.
  • Hope & Olive. Although we love our THC mocktails, we also frequent Hope & Olive — yes, it’s at the corner of Hope and Olive streets in the center of Greenfield — for the Pioneer Valley’s most creative cocktails.
  1. Starting on Massachusetts Route 10/U.S. Route 5/Greenfield Road next to the Old Deerfield Village Historical District, head south. You’re heading in the correct direction if you pass Richardson’s Candy Kitchen on your left.
  2. After about five miles, turn left onto Sunderland Road/Massachusetts Route 116 South. The turn is at the first traffic light after you pass Yankee Candle Village.
  3. Stay on Sunderland Road for just over three miles; you’ll cross the Sunderland Bridge along the way.
  4. About a mile and a half after you cross the bridge, you’ll see apartments on either side of the street. After these, Altai Alternative Care is on your right with a huge parking lot.

Deerfield

About Deerfield

Deerfield is the Pioneer Valley’s top spot for experiencing old New England life. We head here to be reminded of what our area was once like, and we’re equally fond of this town’s 21st-century highlights. It’s also just a hop and a skip from where we’re based in Sunderland.

  • Flynt Center of Early New England Life. Explore collections of the people and objects of New England’s first days, located on the edge of town.
  • Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory. Spend time with thousands of butterflies and enjoy a moment of reflection at the koi pond. You can’t miss the conservatory, between Deerfield and South Deerfield on Greenfield Road.
  • Yankee Candle Village. Sensory stimulation defines this chain’s vivid flagship location, especially its year-round Christmas village.
  1. Starting at the intersection of Main Street and Bank Row/U.S. Route 5 in Greenfield, head west on Main Street. You’re going in the correct direction if the Hawks and Reed Performing Arts Center is on your left.
  2. As you approach the car dealerships on your left, bear left onto Mohawk Trail/Massachusetts Route 2A-West.
  3. After two traffic lights, you’ll reach a traffic circle. Take the third exit from the traffic circle to merge onto I-91 South toward Springfield.
  4. Stay on I-91 South for about eight miles, then take exit 35 for U.S. Route 5/Massachusetts Route 10 toward Whately/Deerfield.
  5. At the end of the exit ramp, turn left onto U.S. Route 5 North/Massachusetts Route 10 North.
  6. At the second traffic light, turn right onto Sunderland Road/Massachusetts Route 116 South.
  7. Stay on Sunderland Road for just over three miles; you’ll cross the Sunderland Bridge along the way.
  8. About a mile and a half after you cross the bridge, you’ll see apartments on either side of the street. After these, Altai Alternative Care is on your right with a huge parking lot.

Ashfield

About Ashfield

In Ashfield, the restaurants are just as gourmet as in more populous parts of the Pioneer Valley, but we’ve never encountered a wait. Chalk it up to Ashfield being like our cherished Sunderland: On the smaller side and all the more welcoming for it. We feel really at home here.

  • Ashfield Lake House. This reliable burger spot is as great for soothing waterside views of Ashfield Lake as for a fast-paced game of pool.
  • Countrypie Pizza Co. We’re as charmed by the overflowing wall of flyers out front as by the massive, indulgent pepperoni pies.
  • Le Petit Oiseau Bake Stand. From May through October, if we leave Ashfield without a sweet treat from Le Petit Oiseau, we’re doing it wrong.
  1. Starting at the intersection of Baptist Corner Road, South Street, and Conway Road/Massachusetts Route 116, head east on Conway Road.
  2. Stay on this road for just under 13 miles, until you reach its end. There, turn right onto Greenfield Road/U.S. Route 5 South. Continue for about three miles.
  3. After about five miles, turn left onto Sunderland Road/Massachusetts Route 116 South. The turn is at the first traffic light after you pass Yankee Candle Village.
  4. Stay on Sunderland Road for just over three miles; you’ll cross the Sunderland Bridge along the way.
  5. About a mile and a half after you cross the bridge, you’ll see apartments on either side of the street. After these, Altai Alternative Care is on your right with a huge parking lot.

Shutesbury

About Shutesbury

Although Sunderland has plenty of nature and hiking opportunities, sometimes, we’re looking for a change of scenery. That’s when we head to Shutesbury to escape into state parks and wildlife refuges. And in the summer, Shutesbury is home to our nearest beach.

  • Lake Wyola State Park. This huge park is equally wondrous for spring picnicking, winter cross-country skiing, and summertime beach days.
  • Paul C. Jones Working Forest. We go here when we want an especially effortful hike.
  • Bright Water Bog Nature Retreat. More than your average nature walk, Bright Water Bog is home to stunning wood, glass, and stone sculptures.
  1. Starting at the intersection of Wendell Road and Leverett Road in Shutesbury, head west on Leverett Road. You’re heading in the correct direction if you pass the Shutesbury fire department building on your left.
  2. Stay on Leverett Road, which becomes Shutesbury Road, for just over four miles.
  3. After this distance, Shutesbury Road will appear to come to an end, but turn right and you’ll remain on it.
  4. Continue for about a mile and a half, until you reach the intersection with Montague Road. Stay left to continue on Shutesbury Road, which becomes Depot Road.
  5. When you reach the end of this road, briefly turn left onto Amherst Road, then take the first right to get back onto Depot Road.
  6. At the end of Depot Road, turn left onto Long Plain Road/Massachusetts Route 63, then take the first right onto Bull Hill Road.
  7. At the end of Bull Hill Road, turn right onto Amherst Road/Massachusetts Route 116. Once you see The O’s Music Bar on your right, you’re almost at Altai!
  8. Make the first left after the plaza on your left with Frontier Pizza and Banchan Korean Deli, and you’ll be at our dispensary.
